INTERFILIÈRE Exhibitor Interview - Lenzing Group: Creativity Rooted in Nature

2025-10-07 21:17:13 interfiliere-seo

As sustainability becomes the “entry ticket” to international markets, and with “ultra-fast fashion” facing heavy tariffs, the lingerie industry is moving from broad commitments to real-world practice. At the upcoming INTERFILIÈRE SHANGHAI 2025, the “Green Planet” zone, co-created with Lenzing Group, directly responds to this shift in the lingerie industry.

As a global leader in cellulose fibers, Lenzing exemplifies the “Green Planet” concept. Through this interview, we explore its net-zero roadmap, innovative material strategies, and supply chain collaborations—showcasing how sustainability builds long-term competitiveness.

1. Social Responsibility Practices
Lenzing’s SBTi-approved climate targets align with the Paris Agreement. By 2030, it aims to cut Scope 1 & 2 emissions 42% and Scope 3 by 25% (baseline 2021), and achieve 90% total reductions by 2050. The Group updated its climate plan and TCFD report, while advancing biodiversity policies and major pollution-control projects. Notably, wastewater facilities in Indonesia and the UK are being upgraded, and Higg FEM audits achieved ~90% scores across key sites.

2. Climate Targets in Action
Lenzing is the only regenerated fiber producer with a science-based net-zero goal. Six plants already run on 100% renewable electricity (~400,000 tons CO₂ avoided). It acquired a 43 MW biomass plant in Austria, signed a 12.6 MW wind power deal, and installed gas-based cogeneration in Nanjing to phase out coal. Supplier partnerships further ensure access to green energy and chemicals.

3. Circularity & Innovation
Brands like TENCEL™ advance the circular economy through recycling cotton-rich waste, creating next-gen footwear with Recyc Leather, and concepts like recycled geotextile jackets. In 2024, a design guide with Södra promoted recyclability. Despite market hurdles, Lenzing continues supplying fibers with 20% recycled content, while collaborating on bio-based acetate for wider industry use. These moves align with rising demand in the activewear market.

4. Supply Chain Collaboration
Through EcoVadis, TfS, and internal audits, Lenzing targets 95% assessment coverage of major suppliers by 2025. Pulp suppliers are evaluated with FSC® standards, and collaborations on low-carbon caustic soda already reduced ~95,000 tons CO₂ in 2024. Such efforts both cut Scope 3 emissions and embed accountability across the value chain.

5. People & Communities
Beyond environmental goals, Lenzing invests in communities—supporting education, healthcare, biodiversity projects in Europe and Africa, and REDD+ forest protection. Internally, initiatives like EquiGen increase female participation, while ERGs (Women@Lenzing, Multicultural@Lenzing, PrideAlliance@Lenzing) foster diversity.

6. Future Focus
Lenzing will expand investment in clean energy, digital product passports, and traceability platforms like TextileGenesis. Lifecycle analyses will continue to guide decarbonization while enhancing downstream visibility.

Lenzing’s sustainability strategy extends beyond fiber production, offering systemic solutions in sourcing, climate goals, and collaboration. The intimate apparel trade shows such as INTERFILIÈRE SHANGHAI reveal that the industry’s green journey requires both leadership and collective action.

October 13–14, 2025, step into the “Green Planet” zone at INTERFILIÈRE SHANGHAI to explore cutting-edge fibers and the future of sustainable intimate fashion.
